My name is Christopher Bertsch. I live in Aberdeen, SD and work as an Information Security Administrator for Dacotah Bank. I am a South Dakota resident since birth. I have lived in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Aberdeen, Ipswich, Lead, Watertown, Madison and now back to Aberdeen.
I developed an interest in the Information Technology field when I was a mere freshman in high school. I had been playing around with an old computer during study hall and found a vulnerability in a program that was unable to run due to the systems current resources. Instead of loading it directed me to a command prompt where I used a string of commands and parameters that eventually led to the deletion of the entire staff and student login directory. It was down for two weeks and, in 1996, an outsourced computer technician charged $200.00 per hour to restore all the profiles and track down the source of the disaster. I wasn't very aware of what I was doing at the time and was using my own profile which led them to me. The Superintendent labeled me a "hacker" and I was removed from all future computer classes for an entire year. I ended up taking my sophomore classes during my junior year to catch up.
It was from this moment on that I decided I wanted to fully understand what I did and I developed a passion for technology. I have obtained my Associates of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems and I am currently seeking my B. S. in Computer and Network Security. My superintendent was right, I am a hacker, but I flipped it and now I use what I know and learned to provide security and peace of mind to current and potential employers.
